Fifty-two on Fridays | Family

It is not possible that we are approaching the finale to this wonderful project 52.  As it has been all year I am joined by some amazing photographers on this journey, so please click the link at the end of my post to see their take on this weeks theme.

This week our theme is {Family}.  I could write run-on after run-on sentence on how blessed I am that I have been given such a wonderful family.  Instead, I love pulling together collages from some of my favorite film photographs taken in the last couple of months.  Thank you for continuing to indulge my passion for my family and film.

Uncomplicated Goodness {part 2} | Modern Black and White Film Child Photographer

I am back with another simple session.  To see part 1, click here. These session are full of uncomplicated goodness where I get to capture the true unguarded expression of my subjects.  No crazy props or lighting.  Just a child and their lovey and some perfectly good natural lighting. To make it even less complicated I shoot in film.

Fifty-two on Fridays | Toys

Whoa…the count down begins.  Week 50 is here.  Just two more weeks of this amazing project and we are finished.  I am sharing this with some pretty amazing photographers so don’t forget to check out the next one in the blog circle at the end of my post.

This week our theme is toys.  Life is so busy, that I had to pull this one from a recent set of film scans.  I look at this photo and think…it starts here, with a Toy.  Children find passions in childhood through their playthings, and sometime those passions stay with you for a lifetime.

Fifty-two on Fridays | Cold

Baby it’s cold outside….This weeks theme totally made me think of that song.  We are in week 49 of this Project 52 journey.  I can’t believe that we are almost finished.  It is crazy amazing that I have stuck with this project and I am so proud of myself for doing it!  As always, don’t forget to follow the links at the end of my post to the next wonderful photographer in the group to see her interpretation of the theme!

This week our theme is {cold}.  What is your “go-to” for warming yourself up in these cold winter months.  Tell me, I want to know. My kids and I are similar, a HOT shower always does the trick.  I could stand in a HOT shower for hours.  It is only thing that can warm me back up, especially when the chill is deep in my bones.  My kids are the same way, when it’s cold, they will just stand in that hot steaming shower until I make them get out…and even then I hear cries of ,”mommy I’m not done yet!”.

10-on-10 | December Edition

I am here. It’s December. I am just trying to make it through to January. This is one of those projects that is helping me to make it through. I feel renewed and connected when I pull together my 10-on-10 post. What is 10-on-10? 10-on-10 is 10 photos from one day in my ordinary, blessed, chaotic, real life. It is taking photos of what I really love.  I started this project with the aim of capturing my life, the raw, the beautiful, my family, my friends, my work. I didn’t want to look back and see only portraits of my kids. I want to look back and see my family and say, Yes, I remember that….

I am lucky to be doing this project with nine other photographers, that for reasons of their own see value in slowing down for a day and capturing 10 photos that tell a story of where their lives. Please click the link at the bottom of my post to see the next photographer and her 10-on-10.

This month, I stepped out of my comfort zone (a lot) and decided that I would shoot this project using film. My adventures in film have been a quiet journey and I was super excited to capture a day with my family.

Fifty-two on Fridays | Whimsy

The weeks are counting down and we are at week 48 of my project 52. I thought it was hard to keep up with this project during the summer with all of us on the go so much, but the Christmas season is darn near impossible! This week I actually went out and intentionally shot for this theme. I am glad that I did. I’ve needed to pick up my camera more and shoot with more intention.

I had in my mind what I wanted {whimsy} to look like. For me whimsy is fantastical, play, pretend, imagination. In my world, it is a 3-year old, in an over the top pink tutu, panda bear hat, and gorgeous mid-December evening light, twirling, and smelling the flowers.

Fifty-two on Fridays | Strangers

Welcome back to week 47 of this 52 week journey to explore photographic themes and prompts, otherwise know as my Project 52. I am joined by several other amazing photographers in a blog circle. As always remember to click the link at the bottom of my post to see the next photographer in the circle and her interpretation of the theme.
This week the prompt/theme was Strangers. What….you mean I have to photograph someone I don’t know or who hasn’t explicitly asked me to take their picture. I wouldn’t call my street photography anything more than snapshots so this was going to be a tough one. Well, this week I had a few interesting opportunities to photograph strangers. The first two I’ll tell you about I decided it best to not pull my camera out. The first opportunity was Tuesday night. On Tuesday I was to get a very special delivery from Fedex, my new medium format camera. I had it all planned out that I would take a picture of the Fedex person delivering my package. Well the Fedex person didn’t show until really late on Wednesday. And when I say really late, I am taking 11 pm at my door late. A little bit creepy, so I decided to let my husband get the door and me and my camera hid in the hallway. The second opportunity was last night at the gas station. As I was sitting in my car waiting for the pump to finish a man in a suit approached my window and asked if he could try out a new tire cleaning spray. He had a booth all set up at the gas station, so he was legit, but it was dark, and I had my two kids in the car and I wasn’t real keen on letting a stranger get too close to my car. I happened to have my camera in my car and thought about taking his picture but decided that because I didn’t let him do his demo on my tires that I wouldn’t subject him to getting his picture taken.
So that brings us to the photograph I have this week. This was taken last night during one of several errands (including getting gas). The most fun errand of the evening was to pick up some delicious cupcakes from a local bakery called Sibby’s Cupcakery. Sibby’s cupcakes are AMAZING. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, forget about Sprinkles or Tara’s Cupcakes, this place is it. So in anticipation of this weeks theme I purposely took my camera with me to pick up some cupcakes for a party on Thursday and asked the wonderful cupcake decorator if I could take her picture. She was an amazing sport about it all! And if you look close you can see the familiar face of my sweet girl. Now, if you want to see a picture of the amazing cupcakes from Sibby’s you’ll have to come back for my Monday post (tease tease tease).

Now head on over and check out what Melissa Deakin | Buffalo NY Photographer captured this week.
