Film Fridays | Our Family Vacation | Part Trois

Film Fridays is personal creative adventure using the very establish medium of film. Can you hear me chanting, Film is NOT dead, as I wave my camera that is heavier than my 3 year toddler. The funny part of this adventure is learning how to help the people or passerby’s pick up their jaws from the floor after they ask me about my camera and I tell them that I shoot film and no they can’t see the picture on the back of my camera. My husband turns his nose up at film. He is a digital guy. If Steve Jobs wasn’t involved in the technology, he isn’t interested. So this adventure continues with another Friday of Film.

This Friday, I am sharing a roll from my family’s vacation in the Hawaiian Islands. Our group theme is color and I think these fit with the rainbow of tropical hues experienced on our vacation. The first 7 or so of this series was shot mid day at the beach. See the detail in the highlights, very little blowout…I heart film! These were all shot using Fuji 400h on my medium format camera and developed/scanned by RPL using the Frontier scanner.

Join me in seeing how my fellow photographer and friend Cara Richardson | Phillip Island Photographer captures her world on film.

Me and Mine | SF Bay Area Peninsula Family Lifestyle Photography | Project 26

I’ve decided something. Wait for it….wait for it….I love, love, love, Me and Mine posts. I adore everything about them. If I could only have one project for the year, this would be it. Why is this, since I am fortunate enough to participate in several wonderful photography projects. Well, first, I’ve loosened up a bit, and I have tried to make these shoots as fun as possible for my little ones. For the last 3 years, both my kids have had my camera pointed in their direction, or just right in their face. I decided at the start of this project to make it more about them and less about me getting the perfect shot. It turns out they really enjoy having their pictures taken if I am in the photo shoot with them. They come up with the most wonderful ideas for a “fun” photo shoot. Second reason why I love these post, it’s an excuse to to reflect for a moment on the unique and special qualities of each of my lovies. And third, these photos are not just a gift to my children, but I have found that these are also a gift to myself. These photos are the ones that I treasure most.

This month for my Me and Mine, I am featuring my youngest. She is my love. When I found out that I was pregnant and that I was having a girl I was scared. Up until that point as a mother, I only knew how to be a mommy to a boy. I was also worried on how I was going to raise a confident little girl that would grow into a confident woman in todays world where girls face so many criticisms based solely on appearances. I can’t say and I wont say today that I’ve overcome all of my fears of parenting and raising my little girl. But what I will say is that I look at her and these pictures and I know that she is a HAPPY little girl. Right now, her happiness and her love for the silly, the fun, the cuddles is enough for me, so far so good!

One of the other really wonderful aspects of Me and Mine is sharing it with some pretty wonderful mothers/photographers. Join me by visiting my friend Shea Parker of Peepeye Designs | Clinton MS Family Photographer.

The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 12

Well, ladies I am back this week.  I was afraid that with returning to work that getting these projects completed each week was going to be difficult. That was an understatement.  But, I’m here this week.

Our theme this week is fittingly, {Green}.  I had a bit of fun in the kitchen with my oldest.  He really is such a great sport when it comes to my camera and I am working hard to make it more fun for him too, rather than the usual “sit here, no sit here, look here, smile here, don’t smile, look at my camera not your feet”.  I’m sure you get my drift.

Without further ramblings a couple of versions of green.

My limes, which will be used to make the most delicious margaritas!  And well, my boy is a cool cucumber, with some seriously Irish green eyes!  Hope you all had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day! Next up in our circle is the very talented Alison Crane | Bay Area Family Photographer!

Morning Light | San Francisco Bay Area Child Photographer | Project 26

Lately, in my mind I am happily dreaming up ideas for photo shoots.  This is a welcome change from a very long “Winter” in my creativity.  This week, my idea for shooting in {Morning Light} came out NOTHING like I planned.  And, I am o.k. with it.  Remember, I am working on letting things go, that perfectionist in me will eventually come around.

I love {Morning Light}, but it’s not something that I usually shoot in, see I’m a night owl and I LOVE to catch up on sleep during the weekends.  So when I had my idea all planned out, and I woke up early, and it all fell to bits…I’ll admit I pouted, just a little.  But two things happened, I walked around my house and I admired the wonderful bright March sunlight flooding my windows and I became inspired, and afterwards I sat down in some of that warm light and enjoyed a wonderfully peaceful cup of coffee.

Now after you check out how I photographed in the {Morning Light}, please head on over and visit my friend Hope Toliver | Tulsa OK Senior and Family Natural Light Photographer. I can’t tell you how many times in the last couple of weeks I have texted her asking for prayer, and within minutes of my text she is on it. She is a wonderful friend to have! Thanks Hope!

{Morning Light} while wandering through my house, and I stumble upon my sweet girl who has crawled up into my bed and found my phone, much to her great delight. Click. Click. Click.

{Morning Light} while enjoying my steaming soy latte.  This is what I get to see.  O.k. I had to set my latte down and grab my new beautiful zoom lens and run out to my front yard (in my pajamas and bed hair) to get this image, but let me just say…totally worth it.

The Bloom Forum | Project 52 | Week 10

Here we are again, another Sunday and another Project 52 post. This week we are thinking about and photographing the prompt “Distress”. As always you can catch a glimpse of how the 15 other photographers in the blog circle photographed this theme by following the links at the end of my post.
This particular photo was taken on my familys trip to Portland to visit my mom. We were on our way to the sweet shop and happened by this doorway. It screamed at me for a photograph, and my sweet boy who is always ready for a snap or two obliged (cant you tell by his thrilled expression, insert sarcasm here!)!

Up next this week is Alison Crane | Bay Area Family Photographer

You are my sunshine on a rainy day

She is my sunshine. She makes me happy.  She sings rain rain go away because she knows her mama NEEDS the sunshine. She says a photoshoot is girl time. She prefers to wear her brothers old pajamas rather than her own. Her monkey pillow does a number on her hair each morning. And I love that she is mine.

All photographed using a Nikon F100 and Kodak Portra 800 film. I rated this film anywhere between 400 and 800.  I decided to try out a new lab for developing and scanning, Pro Photo Connection in Irvine.  John provided the most wonderful customer service.  If you are considering different labs to develop your film I would highly recommend them, and their prices are reasonable. The black and whites where just desaturated in lightroom.

Me and Mine | Belmont CA Family Portrait Photographer | Project 26

Here we are in the beginning of March, and I looking forward to spring flowers, the exit of cold and flu season, and the more Project 26 posts from the inspiring ladies in this circle.  As always you can catch a glimpse of how each of us photographed the theme or prompt by following the links at the end of my post.

This week I am posting my “Me and Mine.  This project is one that I encourage every mother to take on.  The goal, be in more photos with the people that you love.  As mothers, daughters, wives, we are always coordinating behind the scene, rarely taking time to step into the scene and be in the moment or pictures.  Personally, “Me and Mine posts are my favorite.  I know that when my kids grow up, they probably won’t appreciate all the pretty portraits that I’ve taken, but I hope that they will hold onto the ones of us as a family, together.  Saying, “I remember when Mommy begged me to take this photo with her :-) ”.  These are the photos that count! And here is my most recent favorite, and it is one of my favorites because,

1.  This is my first baby, Noah.  I can’t believe that God chose me to be his mommy, but He did.  I am thankful for this wonderful gift. I try not to screw up as a his mommy on a daily basis, but I find myself on my knees asking for forgiveness each night.  I guess with your first, no matter how old they are, each milestone (good or bad) is new and you both learn as you go through it.

2. This photograph was taken using film.  Yep, I figured out how to set the timer on my medium format camera, manually focused the lens, while I begged Noah to “stand still, don’t you move” and got a shot off.   I love film, and the joy it has brought back to my personal photography work.  I am shooting almost all of my personal/family photos in film (when its possible).  And I am loving it.

Next up in our Me and Mine post is Shea Parker | Jackson MS Child Photographer.  Her sweet family will make you smile all day long!
