Film Fridays is personal creative adventure using the very establish medium of film. Can you hear me chanting, Film is NOT dead, as I wave my camera that is heavier than my 3 year toddler. The funny part of this adventure is learning how to help the people or passerby’s pick up their jaws from the floor after they ask me about my camera and I tell them that I shoot film and no they can’t see the picture on the back of my camera. My husband turns his nose up at film. He is a digital guy. If Steve Jobs wasn’t involved in the technology, he isn’t interested. So this adventure continues with another Friday of Film.
This Friday, I am sharing a roll from my family’s vacation in the Hawaiian Islands. Our group theme is color and I think these fit with the rainbow of tropical hues experienced on our vacation. The first 7 or so of this series was shot mid day at the beach. See the detail in the highlights, very little blowout…I heart film! These were all shot using Fuji 400h on my medium format camera and developed/scanned by RPL using the Frontier scanner.
Join me in seeing how my fellow photographer and friend Cara Richardson | Phillip Island Photographer captures her world on film.

Sure the highlight detail was on your side but you also did a great job managing the full sun. Love these, they feel so happy & relaxed…perfect beachy-ness!
Thank you Nancy!
I love the shave ice shot of the two of them! My hubby thinks I’m kinda insane for shooting film too.
i always enjoy your posts. these are amazing. love the colors and that cute family of yours. now i want an ice cone!
These are so gorgeous! I love the colors! I would partially have to agree with your husband on the whole Steve Jobs thing. I heart Steve too but I will play with film.
These are so beautiful. Film is sooo perfect for ocean pics, look at how many shades of blue are in that water-try getting that tonal range with digi!
These are beautiful Jayme! You were even brave enough to let someone else shoot so you could be in a few. Love it! Great job with full sun!
Actually, I set my camera on a rock wall, and hoped the timer would work! Ha, luckliy it did!
Gorgeous! I especially like the ones with you and your family. Makes me long for summers at the beach.
I’m loving all of your Hawaii images and the wonderful connection you capture between your children .
Love them, Jayme – especially the one with Nate and the kids on the beach. The textures and lighting are amazing; great capture! Love the creaminess of them all. Inspiring, thank you!
