Have you ever had a grouping of images that you just didn’t want to share? I’ve held these images for well over month. Held them on my hard drive. I’ve come back to them every couple of days and I stare and stare. I’m not sure if it is because I see such beauty in this child, or because I know I have captured a quiet moment and that my heart desires to create this again, or if it something about capturing a child on film, the pureness. Whatever it is, I’ve held onto these, and now I am ready to let you see what is in my clenched fists. Cupping my hands around this sweet sweet girl on film. Thanks for looking and thanks for returning for another Film Friday.
Joining me this month is the very talented Cara Richardson. Did you know that she scans her own images…amazing work I tell ya!

Welcome back to my bimonthly Project 26 post. In this project I am privileged to participate with a group of photographers where we use our art and our eye to interpret a theme or prompt. This time, our prompt is Strength.
I thought about how to photograph this prompt and I kept coming back to a phrase, “Strength of character”. For my two lovies, they both possess strengths in their character. Each of their strengths is different, but I can see these strengths come through in the series of photos below. From my son, his strength is his determination. He won’t shy away from something if he thinks it is hard, or something he won’t be good at. Instead, he takes the “I can conquer, or I can master” attitude. He is tiresome sometimes in his determination, and there are time I have to remind him to take a break or come back to something when he is “fresh”. From my littlest, one of her character strengths is a fearlessness. She may be the youngest and the smallest of our family but she doesn’t care. She is my, “I can do it Mama”. And on this day, she did it. She climbed higher than anyone else, with little regard for the red line that your not supposed to climb past, completely fearless.
On this day, I was extremely proud of both of my little climbing powerhouses. To end, I had a funny exchange with a colleague where I recently showed him one of these images of my daughter and son scaling walls, and he immediately exclaimed…”Mama don’t let them grow up to be mountain climbers”. My response, “too late.”
Joining me this week for Strength, is my friend Hope Toliver of Hope Toliver Photography. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us. Head on over and see for yourself.

Me and Mine.
Sometime I look at this project as a view into the moments that I share with my children, right where we are in our relationships. Many of my Me and Mine photographs are not “portrait-like”, but tell a story. This month, this photograph, for me speaks volumes about my relationship with my daughter.
My daughter is my baby, and when I affectionately call her “my baby girl” she quickly corrects me with “I’m not a baby”. Lately, I catch myself looking at her and wanting her to stay this age for ever, with her cherub cheeks and fine wispy blonde hair. But I know that this age is fleeting. She is becoming this strong independent little person, with scabbed knees, dirty elbows, and flare for the dramatic. She wants to be older, to do the things that her brother does and to the same level, there is competition. I find myself having to temper some of her desires, explaining that she is not quite old enough, or big enough, or just not ready yet. And then there is the pouting, the tantrums, the sassyness that follows. These days are exhausting, and yet I still want to savor every single moment. They grow up way too too fast, and I know I will look back wishing for tantrums over simple issues rather than the more grown up complex ones. If only I could freeze time…

Do you ever take a moment and watch the life around you and while your watching hear a song resonating in the background to fit those moments, right then, right there. That happened to me the other night when I watch my two lovies and the lyrics to this song played in my heart and in my mind.
“I’m only me when I’m with you”
Friday night beneath the stars,in a field behind your yard, you and I are paintin’ pictures in the sky. And sometimes we don’t say a thing; just listen to the crickets sing. Everything I need is right here by my side. And I know everything about you I don’t wanna live without you.
[Chorus:]
I’m only up when you’re not down. Don’t wanna fly if you’re still on the ground.
It’s like no matter what I do. Well you drive me crazy half the time; the other half I’m only trying to let you know that what I feel is true.
And I’m only me when I’m with you.

I am participating in the very fun ‘summer shot list’ over at Let The Kids. This week I am posting ‘Let The Kids Run Through the Sprinklers’!
Have you ever walked down a familiar street and looked through a window of a shop you’ve never noticed before and said, “Now that looks like my kinda shop!” Well, just that very situation happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I passed by this sweets shop while running errands one weekend, looked through the window, and decided…yes I will be coming back! The shop is called Sweet Orchid, and it is located on B-Street in Downtown San Mateo. This past weekend was full of bright warm sunshine and so Nate and I decided to try out this little shop. As you can tell we picked the seat right in front of the window. My kids devouring their gelato was entertainment for several passerbys. The sweets were delicious, the espressos hit the spot, the people watching was too funny, and it was a wonderful afternoon adventure. We will definitely be coming back!
Joining me this week in the Project 26 creative challenge of Through the Window is my friend Celeste Jones | Wilmington Delaware Photographer. She is wonderful and is sure to amaze us with her take on the theme!
